The Dust in the Rearview collection chronicles a fleeting yet unforgettable adventure exploring the desert landscapes of Anza Borrego, CA. Painted en plein air using gouache, these pieces reflect the vibrant colors and striking beauty of the region, experienced during a trip in our new adventure vehicle. It was our maiden off-roading adventure in our new truck and the first night we camped out in it under a blanket of stars, watching sunsets melt into sunrises, while taking in the desert’s essence.

Among the highlights of the trip was witnessing a rare desert superbloom, which inspired the centerpiece of the collection, Why We Came. In just a few days, four paintings emerged—each a tribute to the desert’s unique palette and the awe-inspiring moments it offers to those who pause to look. Dust in the Rearview is a celebration of adventure, the fleeting nature of light and color, and the magic of embracing the journey.
