From Maria’s 'Happy Now' collection. This scene depicts the iconic overlook at the Terramar Point surf break in Carlsbad, California. This break is where Derek brought Maria on Fridays after work to teach her to longboard when they moved to Southern California from the Bay Area.

Printing & Materials

All of our fine art giclee paper prints are created using archival-grade inks on museum quality paper.

Lightly textured with a matte finish, the natural Eco Hemp Paper from Hahnemühle used for our prints is free of optical brighteners and is selected for its brilliant reproduction of the colors, details, and contrasts of Maria's work. This acid and lignin-free paper meets the precise requirements for age resistance and is ISO 9706 compliant for museum-quality high age resistance.

Fun fact: hemp was an essential part of paper production for centuries, and due to its extremely robust fibers, it has often been used for long-lasting historical documents, such as the Gutenberg Bible and the US Declaration of Independence. We love it for its durability and the renewable nature of hemp compared to many other paper components. The materials used ensure long-term, archival stability with sustainability in mind.

Sizing

Unframed print dimensions are exact to what is shown on the store and printed full bleed (borderless).

For example, a 16"x20" paper print measures 16" by 20" and the print goes all the way to the edge of the paper.

Framed paper prints will add 1/2" to each dimension. For example, a 16"x20" framed print will measure 17" by 21" with the frame.

To offer a variety of standard sizes, some ratios are cropped and may vary slightly from the listing photo. In these cases, we have carefully cropped each print to look its best in the offered ratio.

Framing Options

Prints are available framed or, if you'd prefer to manage framing yourself, you can purchase an unframed print.

Unframed paper prints are printed full bleed (borderless).

Framed paper prints are protected with an anti-glare acrylic and are available in all sizes. All frames are made to order.

The Meaning...

This piece is a reminder that joy can be found on the other side of fear. I LOVE the ocean but I find its power and dark murky depths intimidating. Our surf sessions at Terramar Point showed me that even when I'm feeling a little scared there's still room for joy to float on the board with me.

This spot marked an important step in our relationship...

I loved how surfing with Derek helped me get to see a different side of him. His passion for being in the water and waiting for a wave that will offer a good ride was contagious and helped me to see him and myself in a different light. I feel so fortunate to have found a partner who pushes me outside the confines of my comfort zone and I can report that we always walked up these steps lighter and feeling more alive than when we plodded down. And while we were out there we added some pretty beautiful sunsets to the memory bank - like the one in 'Enjoy The Ride'.

When asked if I surf I usually say...

Honestly, I'm more into floating. I'm able to get up on a wave and I've enjoyed a few good rides punctuated by plenty of wipeouts, but what makes me happiest is just to be out there, bobbing in the water, taking in the sights and letting the more committed surfers catch the waves.
